The United States currently has 13.4 to about 16.5 million children living in poverty. Over 38.2 percent of these children are of minority descent. The United States blinds the unconscious mind of devoted Americans. Elected officials cover the reality that their “American Dream” is only one of fiction. Those minorities who are lured to America to give their children financial stability are fooled into owing money to the government. According to non-Americans, the American Dream is one that they envy. The folklore is told to be one that will change the lives of the one who takes it as if it was the fountain of youth that gave you all the positives of its curse. Reality hits when the red piece of paper comes in the mail that you cannot afford.

It is told that government officials will only take part in projects that will benefit them in the near future (JASON M. BRESLOW, 2012). Wars have taken priority over those things that are in dire need of fixing. These families that live in poverty stricken areas are usually those who are the most unhealthy and has the biggest problems with drug/gang violence in their communities(EHRENREICH, B. 2016). This creates a bigger issue on safety and is the world in a secure place to where people can live in peace to pursue their American Dream. The United States cannot be the land it once was due to the deceitfulness that is portrayed by those in high power. These problems cause friction with the American Dream that is what everyone wants in their reality. 15.1% of Americans lived in poverty in 2010. This is a very high percentage when compared to other countries. There should be no one who lives in dire needs for the essentials (HALL, J. L., & HOWELL-MORONEY, M. E 2012). Meaning that the American Dream is not a big possibility for that 15.1% of people in poverty. Even worse, that means that 15.1% or more of these people in the United States are living in gang violence and drug abuse that can damage the lives of these people.
