In my opinion, the Narcirema culture is extremely different from any culture I have ever studied. To me it almost seemed like they have all these charms, and magical potions to keep them well. They go to such great lengths to take care of their bodies by doing these rituals. Yet, they try to avoid pregnancy at all cost by limiting sex around the phases of the moon. If a pregnancy happens to occur the women have to cover up, and hide their body so other people don’t take notice. It's almost as if they want to stop procreating because of the hatred they have for the human body and how weak it is.
The human body is ugly to them, and so they degrade their bodies by doing things in public that they normally would do in private. They use torture

Based on the article, Nacirema, by Horrace Miner, I think that the Nacirema are very gullible and rely on the assistance of “higher powers” to feel better about themselves. The article describes them as people that are masochistic and sadistic because they go through painful rituals that may put them at risk, just because its is a part of their cultural beliefs. They are very afraid to do anything that is outside of the rituals. For example, the article stated that all Nacirema have to interact with their shrine every day, so that they feel protected. They also have very negative ideas of their bodies.…

In the article, Racism American Style and Resistance to Change: Art Education’s Role in the Indian Mascot Issue, by Elizabeth M. De La Cruz, illustrates the negative effects of non-Native Americans organizations from using Indian mascots. She points out that such organizations that use Indian mascots place a negative label on the Native American reputation by imposing ignorance of their culture. She provides various examples in which Indian mascots leads to negative stereotyping and misrepresentation of the Native American culture. In full agreement to the author, I believe that Non-Native American organization that use Indian mascots have negative consequences. The use of Indian belongings or images without proper acknowledgement of their culture can lead to disrespect the Native American culture without meaning to, misrepresenting them, and creating a negative or false stereotyping.…

Defining what American culture is today can be somewhat difficult in today’s society. American culture is always fluctuating. The United States has traditionally been referred to as a "melting pot," welcoming people from many different countries, and hoping to find a better means of life. However, others refer it to as a “Salad”; the ingredients are there, but not everything mixes well. America is full of rich culture, but not every person living in America understands cultures besides their own.…

I had a wonderful time doing my book report on “American Cultural Patterns: A cross-cultural Perspective”. The book is about observing American culture from an outsider's perspective, and comparing it to other cultures from across the globe. In this book, American culture refers to pattern and behavior of the mainstream. In this book, American culture mainly refers to white males for they make up the majority of America, however, it is not exclusive to them. This book is not about Americans changing the way of think when interactions with foreigners, but instead to learn and see their own patterns.…

My understanding of freedom has changed and deepened since the first days’ classes when taking notes on my individual freedom and societal freedom. Historical changes over time and specific events and developments such as the Colonial and Native American early period have fought, articulated, and transformed the freedom many have come to take as granted. Close to the start when Christopher Columbus "discovered" America in 1776, in reality his exploration lead to the conquest and colonization to land already home to millions of people. This did however begin a pivotal moment in history that affected the Old and New World, with changes that are still current today. Along with the conquest of land the differing views of the Indians and Europeans opened different contradictory interpretations about freedom especially within religion, land use, and government.…

American cultural developments have not always promoted diversity, but instead isolation and separation. During the last half of the 1800’s to the start of the 20th century, segregation, racism, and poverty became inherent to many individual communities and neighborhoods. In addition at the beginning of this era, slavery was in full swing and boosted much of America’s economy. Frederick Douglas, an American slave, once quoted “The white man’s happiness cannot be purchased by the black man’s misery”. (Douglas) This meant that even though America was profiting in the agriculture sector, it was coming at the expense of someone else’s life as a slave.…

Dan Brown once stated: “History is always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books-books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe…” (“Quotable Quote”, 2015). The white settlers traveled over to the “new world” to begin anew and to write their own history. However, the land had been settled for thousands of years before the white settlers invaded. Native Americans wanted to handle the situations at hand with peace and fairness, but the whites wanted it their way or no way at all.…

When people think of British culture they automatically think of their charming accents and tea, but there is so much more than that. I chose the UK culture because I was always intrigued by it, then I studied abroad in London and was even more captivated. England, Scotland, Wales, Great Britain refer to parts of the United Kingdom. The name Britain goes back to Roman times when they called England and Wales “Britannia".…
