What I have learned and must remember is that everyone I encounter will have their own embedded values. Some may be the same as mine and some may be different. It is the differences placed on the weight of values that cause value conflict when it comes to assumptions and disagreements. However, in the process of discussion it is imperative to honor the paradigm of others in order to come to a place of mutual responsiveness and clarity. I am a visual learner in many respects and I appreciate the concept of being able to graphically organize and analyze the pieces of an argument. The Toulmin model gives a specific method for analyzing arguments. I find it quite pragmatic to be able to connect the stated facts of an argument to the conclusion and to establish if there has been warrant and backing for the stated fact.
