American Crime Rates Gone Summary

Where have all the criminals gone? This article is talking about American crime rates over the years and how this affects society, the author of this article is bringing up major points on why crime rates have been low for a long time. For example, the article mentions the economy and how when unemployment rates are at a all time high the crime rates also correlate to that. Most gun advocates would use the crime rate to their advantage. They would state something like if everyone has a gun or the right to carry a concealed weapon at all times there would be less crime. While other people would argue that if the government just put more heavy restrictions on who can get their hands on guns, that would lower crime and homicide rates drastically. The author brings up that bursting the so called “crack bubble” played a important role lowering the crime rate in America. Crack gangs would kill their rivals because the crack business was so lucrative. 25 percent of homicides in New York was cocaine related.
