PBS references “ours” as the United States of America when slavery was embedded in the nation up to the late 19th century. As mentioned in paragraph four, Chris Dixon favored the African American students over Hispanic students when a punishment needed to be handed out for fighting. African Americans all hold something in common when relating to the United State’s racial history. Many African Americans come from descendents who were enslaved in the south during the 19th century. Each African American understands the hardships behind being a black male or female in the United States. Chris Dixon is seen favoring his own race during the decision on who to punish for fighting. As an African American, he understood what is was like to grow up as an underprivileged member in society. Chris decided to take racism into effect when his decision needed to be made on who to punish. The television series uses sexuality in a way to portray intersectionality and how homosexuals go through complex situations in order to sustain respect. Principal Dixon is shown using racism under a time of distress between two ethnic groups. The decision to punish only the hispanics can be seen as an example discrimination. An important aspect to depict is the interconnection between two different social classes. Leland High School, who is predominantly caucasian and full of wealth, and Marshall High School predominantly African American are intertwined by conflict from sexuality. This interconnection is unique in a way because it allows viewers to see the relationship between sexuality and social class. Overall, throughout season 2 of American Crime gender, racism, social class, and sexuality all come into factor when discussing this series over the semester. The television series is a great opportunity for a viewer to understand the hardship one might face if they are of a minority or a discriminated
