The American Coot has adapted to it’s habitat over millions of years. The American Coot have beaks which are each specifically modified part to each bird just like all class Aves. The beak of the American Coot is part of the skull and are covered with a tough layer of skin just like all class Aves animals. A filter type beak which is both used for catching insects type beak is what the type of beak the American Coot has adapted to have. This type of beak is used in order to filter plant material from the mud and water that they consume. The beak is slimmer and is useful for the Coot because when it comes to feeding their young ones, parents are able to easily filter food that is acceptable or unacceptable for them.
