Document 6 shows the land reserved for the Indians with the proclamation of 1763 which allowed London to control the westward land expansion of the white population. The British won the war, however because of this victory Britain was in debt due to Prime Minister William Pitt writing a blank check. Because of England immense amount of debt owed they believed they could pay off their debt by taxing the colonists in America. Parliament then passed the Sugar act of 1764, Stamp act of 1765, Townsend acts of 1767, Tea act, and the Intolerable acts of 1774. Imports from Britain(document 2) show how much money is being taken from the colonists from the time period of 1764- 1776, when the townshed acts were formed Britain gained a substantial amount of money to go towards the debts owed. Immediately the colonists were angered at the fact that their everyday items such as tea, and documents and caused a lot of riots. The first continental congress drafted the "Declaration for the causes for taking up arms" a political document (document 5). Within this document the continental congress states that the united colonies of the north are taking up arms with one mind set to become unified and that they would rather die a freeman than live like slaves. However they also stated "we have not raised armies with ambitious designs of separating from Great Britain, and establishing independent states." This shows that America was not fully developed and was not ready to declare independence. There were many reasons that led up to the final separation of the colonies and England, however the major reason of the colonial separation was colonial identity between the years 1750 and 1776. One might ask how does identity make a major difference in our economy? Well to answer that question, Identity not only reminded the colonists of their god born rights, however it also laid the basic foundation for the United States that we live in today.
