There have been countless disasters throughout the history of the United States, and even the world. These disasters have greatly influenced history and our society, for better or worse, to what it is today. Some of these disasters were preventable, and others we could only protect ourselves against. Terrorist attacks have been an increasingly prevalent form of disaster that the United States has faced multiple times with varying results. In the official report regarding the collapse of World Trade Center One and Two the government states that the towers fell exclusively due to the stress that the impact of planes had put on the towers, as well as the fires that quickly consumed the building causing it to fail floor by floor until a full collapse was present. It states that there were multiple airplanes hijacked by terrorists, all with the motive to make that plane into a giant missile. Normally when the United States is notified of this caliber of hijacking they immediately respond. In this case, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) didn’t even come close to responding to these hijackings fast enough. When American 11 struck the World Trade Center at 8:46, no government official in the White House had any idea that the plane had been hijacked. In fact, the government did not even ponder the possibility of this being an attack until the second plane hit the World Trade Center.
