It is seen by many as something normal and perfectly OK, while in reality it is not; it is a rude habit. Sara Rimer believed “children and dinner guests who would never be so rude as to talk on the phone at the family table seem to think it’s perfectly fine to text (or e-mail, or twitter) while eating” (p. 459).
Texting while eating is rude to others because it demonstrates a lack of respect for one’s company. Rather than conversing and being social and extroverted you are being quiet which can lead them to believe there is something wrong with them. Eating together is supposed to be a sentimental and bonding experience. It is not appropriate to stay on your phone at the table.
Establishing and maintaining the common good leads to a healthy, friendly and successful society. We can all can benefit from the common good results. Manners and behavior are very important skills between people that leads to a healthy society and better communication. As they say, old is good and in those golden days’ manner use to be highly valued and judged. Unfortunately, those golden days have vanished with the new generation and the Internet technology. Behavior has become no longer a guide to fitting in so much as a system for getting along. Manners are now, it seems, are not a method of social climbing but a practice of social survival.
