“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” These were the words of Harry Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. Because of our foundation of determination throughout history, America has, since its inception, been on a pedestal for the world to admire. America has been at the cutting edge in many facets of society, including technology, warfare, and social change. We have been thrust into the worldwide spotlight throughout history and have excelled more so than any other country, overall. Although we still lead the world in many ways, other societies are catching up. America is still in the spotlight, but I believe that, as …show more content…
It is how you respect yourself and others around you. Dignity is not mistreating others to simply puff out your own chest. A high sense of dignity can be found in a person who acts in a respectful and tasteful manner. Moreover, everywhere you look, people from different walks of life increasingly have a careless attitude and oftentimes carry on with an undignified attitude towards life itself, in America and around the world. But why? Issues such a bullying, stress, and broken relationships constantly shift the mindset of individuals and affect their day to day lives. As media has an ever increasing influence, even children are exposed to things that prior generations would not even consider appropriate; children everyday witness inappropriate content through commercials, entertainment on TV, and simply on the evening news. Consequently, as minds grow older, a loss of dignity is noticeable and the groundwork of corruption is in place. America is ever changing, and with change comes shifts in society; we, as a culture, have shifted into a state of immorality, and I believe that we can change that to better the lives of the individuals residing here. Strong morals will help our society develop and prosper as a lively, strong country, and help us re-build the dignity upon which our country was …show more content…
Our cutting edge technology and warfare have provided us with the expertise to be at the top. Americans have done this though, not by simply being intelligent, but by possessing morals needed to be a prosperous society. If intelligence were our only virtue, freedoms and peace would not exist as they do today. In regards to the importance of a moral and religious people in a successful Republican Democracy, the Continental Congress stated in 1778, “Whereas true religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness… it is hereby earnestly recommended to the several States to take the most effectual measures for the encouragement thereof.” America needs to maintain its position through necessary morals such as empathy, honest, and dignity to ensure the fate of its position on such economic, social, and political scales. With the focus of morals and ethics, in and around our society, a booming community will be established once again in this great country,
