The American Dream has transformed since the first settlers arrived in this country. The Declaration of Independence is an example of what the American Dream use to be. As centuries passed, the lifestyle of people in America evolved into what is know today. The people of America today want to be successful; they want to get a first-class education so that they can get a satisfying job that will then lead them to making money and then retire. Sadly, since today’s definition of the American Dream has changed so much, it has made it harder to accomplish because of race, people’s finances and the economy.
Race has been a problem for people attaining the American Dream for many years. America is a melting pot of different ethnicities. This makes America unique, however the same opportunities are not given to the immigrants and minorities in this country. The short story “America and I” by Anzia Yezierska narrates the life of a woman from Russia coming to America and trying to start a new life.
