America’s economy is struggling. Millions of hard working American citizens have lost their jobs and fight to make ends meet. In addition, according to “Our Democratic Debt,” an article written in July of 2014, the federal government’s total debt is approaching $18 trillion (DeMuth). With this in mind, over eleven million undocumented immigrants reside in America. Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, which worsens this debt and burdens the economy. In order to subsidize illegal immigrants’ lack of tax paying and the so-called “free” governmental programs, such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, that they take advantage of, Americans’ taxes increase greatly (Why Illegal Immigration is Bad for America). It is not financially smart to allow undocumented immigrants to continue with their way of life in America. Illegal immigrants, on average, have low-education skills, and will, on average, receive four times as much in government services, such as emergency medical care and schooling, as they pay in taxes, which will deepen the financial struggles that the United States government faces (DeMint, Rector). As previously stated, the government provides benefits and services to illegal immigrants. According to “The Fiscal Cost of Unlawful Immigrants and Amnesty to the U.S. Taxpayer,” an article written in May of 2013, the average illegal immigrant household of two parents and one child has a net deficit – benefits received minus taxes paid – of $14,387.
