Zimbabwe is mostly made up of what the Mwanamutapta Empire captured (Logan npg). Before researching Zimbabwe, my ethnocentrism made it seem like it was an awful dictatorship disaster just waiting to happen, but learning more about it I realized that Zimbabweans and Americans are very similar yet very different. When thinking of the seven elements of culture, America and Zimbabwe are different in their social organization but are somewhat similar when it comes to their economy and government.

In America, the women and men can choose that they want to marry with no price. America's head of the house is usually the father, but now it is the father, mother, or both. Uniquely, Zimbabwe is very alike now because their social organization is very similar to America except when it comes to getting married. If the man dies then sometimes his side of the family will shun the wife, or the brother (if he has one) will inherit the wife (Shehan 74). For the man to be able to marry the girl he wants he has to pay her father how much he thinks she is worth (usually in cattle) (Shehan 74). In a family, the women give most of the food and are starting to become the head of household while the men are being kind of lazy. In essence to how Zimbabwe families versus American families work there is a drastic difference in how you can get married unlike, but not a difference when it comes to the head of households.
Overall these two countries have some very similar ways of living their lives like in who runs the family but there are also very different like in unemployment.Altogether Zimbabwe and America have completely different lifestyles but there are still some things we don’t know about each of these countries, such as how they learn (Shehan 95
