October 19, 2015 There are four parties who are participating in the upcoming 2015 election, they each have a strong platform which attract different groups of people. The topic I chose to write about is the economy, which I believe is the most significant issue that we are facing today. As stated on the website, the Liberal party will “cut the middle income tax bracket to 20.5 percent from 22 percent” (Real Change, n.d.). This tax cut would benefit save an individual up to $670 dollars a year, which could save $1340 dollars for a household of two. The Liberal party is planning to achieve this goal by having the top one percent of Canadians with the most wealth to pay a little more. Also, the Liberal party will introduce a new tax bracket for people who earn more than $200,000 annually. In the Green party’s platform, they indicated that “Canada is falling far behind the U.S. in productivity” (A Canada That Works. Together, n.d.). Therefore, Green party is trying to increase the amount of manufacturing while the value for the Canadian dollar is low. The Green Party also stated that they will “build a sustainable economy that benefits all Canadians over the long-term” (A Canada That Works. Together, n.d.). This means the Green party will have a strong focus on using more clean technology to produce goods, which benefits the environment. By having more manufacturing, there will also be more jobs opening for the citizens who works in the manufacture industry. Moreover, the environmentalist would benefit from this policy because they focus on having a clean environment rather than a faster moving

Michael Den Tandt's article: "Race to the middle: Rhetoric aside, the major parties have near unanimity on key policies" discusses the lack of ideological differences that exist amongst Canadian political party leaders in their upcoming election campaigns. He argues that the party platforms of the NDP, Liberals, and Conservatives are similar in that they all explicitly speak of the need to implement policies that support the middle class. The article argues that the votes usually come down to a "relatively small cohort of swing voters who are apolitical, not interested in the process and liable to vote their family's economic interest first. " This is why he claims that we see policies on all three sides merging together to gain votes from…
