The first step to solving any problem is recognizing that there is one…” Believe it or not the actor, Jeff Daniels, from Dumb and Dumber, makes that statement in the show he starred in most recently, The Newsroom. The 1960s introduced the education wars and how dolefully we have fallen behind. Our system of higher education exercises a major part in this ongoing downfall. Our government currently has a system of regulations on just about everything: trade, television, food, why not college cost?

Free college, however, would cause an uproar in America. The sentence itself it considered near blasphemy. Just look at how poor Bernie turned out. He was practically forced to run around behind Hilary after everyone shot clean through his “plans”. If you have seen any videos of him after announcing his support for her, he looks like a defeated puppy while walking back to his chair. Only handfuls of people are even aware of the fact that free college exists. In fact, Germany just recently (and recently as in three or four months ago) opened up their policies on letting in foreign students. There used to be a plus charge for foreigners to take any kind of classes there. Now Americans can move there and experience the benefits of free college whenever they choose and please. Nonetheless, free college will not work. Not here anyways. Not with America’s economy the way it is now. Had it been post war when our economy was the example set for other countries to follow? Perhaps, we may have been able to work out the kinks while we still had some wiggle room. However, it is not possible nor logical to do so at this time. Not
