The war created new jobs for them, such as building munitions and other things for war. Women also did simple things like drive buses and work in agriculture. Before, women were limited on the jobs they could have, because they were expected to stay home. Still, they took the place of men. Some women did less laborious work, like charity work.
The military was losing half of their pilots every year (Charman 191). As a result, the military started recruiting female pilots. They recruited so many women, there even all female regiments. Even a couple of Lilya Litvak and Alexei Salomater flew together.
Militaries didn’t expect women to fight in World War Two (Charman 190). They made good secret agents. The Special Operations Executive was run mainly by women. The Allied nations women mainly worked on the home front. Other women were nurses or engineers. Women were killed more often in World War Two than any other war. They were in bombings, massacres, and extermination camps. Women took active roles in the war.
