Through America's indigenous art form; jazz, to the works of American artists such as Jackson Pollock and Romare Bearden, and to the impact of famous works of literature such as The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald. America's culture has a unique identity that has been uprooted ever since the beginning of her history. Throughout her history, America "the great" has forged her cultural identity to be a land of progress, democracy, corruption, and a country full of cultural hegemony.

The roaring twenties is a profound example of the rise and fall of an individual in society. This was all compromised because of The American Dream. The American Dream was "first manifested in the early days of the American settlement" (ovtg). The uprooting of the American Dream can be seen as far in the Declaration of Independence. For example, one of the most famous quotes coming from the Declaration states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" (Agel, Jerome). The quote is describing an attitude of hope for the American and that was precisely what the Declaration of Independence manifested. The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald, known as one of the nation's most provocative writers and American novelist, has written of the most controversial works of literature in America. This work of literature protrudes the values the American Dream cherished. The roaring twenties was a period that was crazed because of the "need for power and money" (20th century USA). John Seed, a professor of Art and Art History at Mt. San Jacinto College states, "Pollock is the artist who paved the way as the prime mover and innovator behind a new style of an American style of art (Abstract Expressionism)." According to Seed, this new art form blossomed in America right after the nation's defeat of the Axis powers. Pollock's paintings coincide with this matter because "America's triumph in the war, validated for the American people to be obsessed with progress and because of this, it paved the way for an era of American cultural hegemony that still lingers to this day" (Seed, John). According to Salvatore Babones, an associate professor of sociology and social policy at the University of Sydney, "American hegemony can be seen as far back during World War two." The United States of America emerged a changed nation that dominated as the economic, political, and technological power versus other nations (Babones, Salvatore). During this time period, the only country that could "resist American hegemony and not displace it was the Soviet Union" (Babones, Salvatore). By 1991, the Soviet Union had disintegrated, and American hegemony was fully complete (Babones, Salvatore). No other country could rise to the power America held. She was at the top of the
