America Against Feminism

Although the word “feminist” has a negative connotation in today’s society, I do identify as a feminist. I am a feminist because I believe that women deserve to have economic, political, and social equality. In addition to this, I am a feminist because even though women have gained many more rights in the past century, there are still women all over the world, including women in the United States, that have not received complete equality.
While I identify as a feminist, there are other women who do not. The “Women Against Feminism” (2016) tumblr displays pictures of women describing why the do not need feminism. When looking through the reasons why people believed feminism was unnecessary, I realized that many people have warped definition of feminism. In many photos on this blog, women state that they do not need feminism because they do not hate men. (“Women Against Feminism,” 2016). However, the point of feminism is not to tear down men, but to build up women. These two effects are not mutually exclusive; it is possible to build up women without tearing down men, and feminism aims to do that. Feminism also aims to help issues that impact men. For example, feminist attempt destroy stereotypes that promote the idea that men can never be emotional. If feminists hated men, they would advocate for their rights to diverge from gender stereotypes.

The “Every Day Feminism” online magazine (2016) is one place where feminists share their opinions and experiences. When browsing this website, I immediately noticed that the articles written were not only about women. There were articles and videos explaining the issues men, people of color, and LGBTQA+ people face in today’s society. This website is a good example of what feminism is supposed to look like; the website advocates for all people, and aims to create an equal world for those who have to face

The word feminism may be the most controversial word in the world. For many people, the word has a negative connotation; because of this, many don’t want to be associated with it. Now in day many people tend to see feminists as angry women who hate men and seek to be the dominant gender. The people who choose to not be associated with the word are often afraid of the judgement from others. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie wrote the book We Should All Be Feminist in which she explains what it means to be a feminist, “a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes”, and the reasons for which she identifies as one (47).…

The word “feminism” is often misinterpreted in our society; a prime example of feminism mistranslated is found within an article titled “Why Modern Feminism is Illogical, Unnecessary, and Evil” by Satoshi Kanazawa. The author claims that feminism is “illogical” because he believes the concept is based upon the assumption that men and women are identical in all aspects. He also argues that feminism is “unnecessary”, as he believes that women are more privileged than men, and that feminism is “evil”, because it makes men and women unhappy. As a feminist, I couldn’t disagree more with these arguments; I…

There is a significant controversy surrounding feminism especially when it is connected to radical feminists because of their strong opinions on who they think all men are. The stigma that everyone who considers themselves a feminist say thing to put the hate or blame on men is incorrect and often people are not educated enough on the subject to know that feminism’s goal is to have equality of the sexes in all domains. It is the intent of this paper to prove that feminism is still needed in Canada mainly focusing attention towards gender roles, the media, and power. To start, through the years society created a list of how men and women should act in society that are considered acceptable or appropriate, but when these norms are challenged…

Feminism helped a woman named Rebecca Hurdis understand herself and it aided her in being paralyzed from speaking her mind to having self made, limitless potential (364). Feminism can be an extraordinary thing and help millions of women all round the world not only achieve equality but find themselves. There is a problem though, “Many women believe that there is a certain required persona to be a feminist (364).” This persona, assumed to be the radical strong feminist, has most likely been the drive for other women to stay away. All of the prospective good feminism could bring might just dissipate without women that would be willing to commit due to…

Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men (“Feminism”). Women have always struggled in the fight to gain equality with men, despite the many major advances; society still has a long way to go in addressing the issue of gender inequality. Women’s rights are somewhat a delicate and unsettled subject that society still continues to debate today. Anyone who is living in the 21st century has heard of the movements of gender equality and feminism. This topic of interest has been around for awhile, and is making a huge comeback. That assumption is wrong, men and women are equally stereotyped into roles of masculinity vs. femininity. In order to fight for gender equality, we have to understand what gender equality is, and why feminism isn 't just for women.…
