Back in the 1930’s, America was deep in the Great Depression and the end of the first World War that it was important to focus on the inside. Isolation was necessary to rebuild the economy and was needed to band together to rebuild our losses and guide the country through hard times. America even tried to stay out of the next world event, World War 2. They were so focused on isolation that choruses of “I hate War” went around and people stood by that mindset. Next comes along the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack, which changed everything. The attack forced the United States to start paying attention to the outside world again.

With the new foreign policy and our new-found power, our economy also starts to improve. Because we are on such good terms and relations with many countries, it helps the economy to expand and grow as we start international relationships overseas. When this shift occurred from having America in total isolation to having America acting as a world leader, we rose into power to break the bipolar system in place in the world, creating a multipolar system.
