As Amelia was walking out of her apartment to leave for work she noticed the puffy, gray, rain clouds in the sky. The rain clouds in the sky made Amelia reflect on her weekend. Amelia tried her best to protect herself from the tornado, but the force of the spinning tornado crumbled the building almost immediately when it hit. All of the floors above Amelia crumbled down to the first floor. As everything collapsed on the first floor, a piece of debris struck her head causing her to go unconscious. When Amelia woke up, she was terrified and could hardly breathe. Covered in debris from head to toe, Amelia was trapped. She felt a heavy object on her chest crushing her lungs, making it harder for her to breathe, and it seemed to get worse each breath she took. Hoping for a way out of underneath the debris, Amelia looked for a way out. She saw a glimmer of light shining through a pile of debris about 3 feet away. Knowing that it would a hard task for her to reach the light, since she was stuck on her back, Amelia began to scream for help. “HELP, I’M STUCK,” she screamed. When no one shouted back, Amelia grew hopeless that someone would come help her. Knowing that she wouldn’t survive much longer if she didn’t get the debris off her chest she would die, so Amelia attempted to push the debris off of her, but it was a large piece of concrete and Amelia wasn’t strong enough to completely lift it off of herself. It was then she reflected back to her weekend at the Chicago Marathon ad the feeling of accomplishment when she crossed the finish line overcame her and gave her the strength to try again to push the debris off of her. She tried one more time to lift the debris off of her but she still couldn’t push the debris off of herself. Hopeless that she would survive, Amelia thought about other ways to free herself from the pile of debris. While trying to come up with an idea, Amelia screamed for help a few more times but there was no reply. She decided to try one more time and was able to give herself a little bit of wiggle
