Her father’s death created havoc on her personal life and professionally she was discouraged. Turning the corner of the corridor she nervously walked up to her supervisor, “It would benefit me and my patients if I had a lighter, less stressful case load. Otherwise I might need to take a personal leave until I fully get over my father’s death”. “You may plan on working in the ambulatory surgical center today. I’ll keep that in mind tomorrow.” Brooke was pleasantly surprised. You promised I could leave anytime I wanted to. I want out!” The thought of coming to terms with her obstinate friend upset her. She had to remain friendly for now. There was no other choice. “Don’t be too sure about promises. It is not in my hands this time. The clientele have increased and so has the demand. I sold some rights to another individual downtown and I have to deliver.” “Not with me. I am finished with this. I should not have started in the first place.” Brooke became mortified. She realized she needed to stand firm with him. She didn’t want to go into the irrational female mode and walked away from him. At the entrance of the restaurant she saw Dr. Kane.
Walking to the rear of the room she noticed an exit door. So much for this party! She opened the back door, discovered the parking lot, and looked for her car. Sally, the recovery room nurse she had words with the other day was standing in the parking lot smoking a cigarette. “Hey Brooke. Over here, nice party.” She slurred her words as she leaned up against a black SUV. “Hi Sally.” I didn’t see you in there. “I went outside for a smoke. I saw that cute Dr. Kane arrive. I am getting ready to work up the nerve to approach him and screw the crap out of

Considering our world today a huge percentage of people truly is living on low wage salaries. Barbara Ehrienreich came up with the book Nickel and Dimed On (Not) Getting by in America in the most paradoxical way. I have always been interested in the surgery aspect of the medical field, so when I found out we would be observing surgical operations I could not have been more excited. Michelle, who sets everything up, saw that I was on 5 North and thought it would be perfect to put me with the neurology team for the day. This added to my excitement because she did not have a lot of surgeries scheduled that entailed really open incisions and both of the operations I was able to watch did. It was a typical busy Tuesday in the Operating Room the morning of November 26th; I remember walking in hoping I had good cases and was assigned to a room. Being part of the Open Heart team meant that if no open heart surgeries were scheduled, you would end up being a float for other services. Many of the nurses preferred not to float because they weren’t always comfortable giving breaks to both surgical techs and circulators, but I didn’t mind scrubbing or circulating different services. I reviewed the scheduled on my way into the locker room before report, I was scheduled to be a float that day. I went into the lounge for morning report and greeted everyone as I always did.…
