Ambulance Slaughter: A Case Study

Decent Essays
On June 10, there were two people that had to be taken to the hospital because of being attacked by pit bulls in Surrey. The B.C. Ambulance Service had reported that they were called at about 2 p.m. on Friday and they were told that near a house on Loughren Drive there were a number of people that had been bitten by one or more animals. After the B.C. Ambulance Service had received this call they had sent three ambulances to the scene. There were at least four people that were injured, but only two of them had to be taken to the hospital. The animal control officers had removed two pit bull-type dogs from the scene. Also, the RCMP still has to release details on this incident.

A sleep-deprived Catherine Galliford is running on adrenalin and ragged nerves after a wild week that saw the RCMP corporal rock her employer with claims that she was sexually harassed and bullied by senior officers, even as she served as the spokesperson for two of the biggest investigations in the force's history. Galliford was calm and competent on camera as the public face of the RCMP's investigations into the Air India bombings that claimed 329 lives, and serial murders committed by Robert Pickton on his Port Coquitlam pig farm. But while Galliford's allegations of harassment reached as far as the House of Commons this week, one of her most explosive claims is only now being made public. Galliford says the rampant sexism within the ranks of the RCMP that ruined her health and career may also have contributed to the mismanagement of the Pickton murder investigation, at a cost of many lives.…

On September 25, 2013, two-year old Colton Zamudio was brutally murdered by his grandmother’s two pit bulls in their backyard (Hall). Colton will never have the opportunities to go to school, make friends, or enjoy any other life experiences because these vicious animals cut his life short. Pit bulls should be banned as pets because they are dangerous around children, they are accountable for numerous deaths and injuries resulting in costly medical care and have tendencies to attack. Two years ago, my friend and I were playing with her new dog in her driveway, when suddenly a large black pit bull began sprinting at us. Then the malicious dog started attacking my friend, myself and her puppy.…

Pit Bulls have been seen as vicious and monstrous dogs for decades and it is hard to change so many people’s minds about something they are set on. People object to adopting Pit Bulls out because they do not know their ‘history’, but to be honest, you don’t know the history of any dog that you adopt from a pound or shelter. In Maddern’s (2014) article, she talks to different people in Newark that have adopted a Pit Bull from a rescue center, like the Humane Society. One of these people was Mike Ossa Jr. Ossa adopted his Pit, Roscoe after returning home from his tour in Afghanistan.…

Jessica Yun J. Lindberg English 1101 6 April 2016 Don’t Bully a Breed The media has given pit bulls a bad reputation and states have begun to support Breed Specific Legislation laws (BSL), but there are many owners who raised their pit bull breeds in correct environments resulting in strong, loyal, and sweet lap-dogs. Although pit bulls have had a few issues that caused deaths or injuries on others, banning pit bulls does not change the fact that all breeds have had incidents of attacking humans and animals. Pit bulls have a history that leads to their companionship, loyalty, and easygoing nature.…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

Don’t Blame the Pit Bull, Blame their Owners Introduction The human race has been trained to coexist, on the other hand, animals of other kinds are not. Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…

Sometimes drivers fail to give way to ambulances. We live in a developing country where everyone is too busy to think about others. One of the main reasons is that people are being pressurized from every direction: from schools, workplaces, homes and also the personal goal of living up to one’s ideals. While we think of arriving at a party in time as a perfect behavior, we forget that facilitating an ambulance instead of rushing past it can save someone’s life which must be a part of our ideals. We should strive to overbear the selfishness that is prevailing in our society.…
