Description of Ambrosia Treatment Center’s Program:
Ambrosia Treatment Center’s mission statements is “We strive to offer progressive treatment modalities to help the sick and suffering addict and alcoholic start their journey of recovery in a respectful, nurturing and comfortable way”.
Ambrosia treatment centers offer this as personal goals for all their clients – “While building a supportive environment to ensure sobriety is the top priority, life continues after treatment. Now that addiction no longer rules their lives, clients are encouraged to plan for their future. This can include continuing education, finding employment, managing finances and repairing family relationships”.
Ambrosia Treatment center is a for profit substance abuse treatment facility / agency, located in Port St Lucie Florida. The agency has offices in three different states, there three locations in southern Florida, two locations in New Jersey and one in Beverly Hills California. The agency has licensure by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) under Chapters 394 and 397 of the Florida Statutes, “The provision of substance abuse services is governed which provide direction for a continuum of community-based services including prevention, treatment, and detoxification services” ("Licensure and Regulation," 2016). These licenses are overseen by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program Office (SAMH) also a division within DCF. Ambrosia is also licensed by the Agency for Health Care Administration in Florida and Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. With this licensing provision it allows the agency to provide services for those “who are at risk of or challenged by substance abuse” ("Licensure and Regulation," 2016). The programs available at the Port St Lucie office are: • Free 24/7 help hotline, • 3 to 10-day medical stabilization, • 14 to 35-day residential treatment, decided on a case by case, • Ongoing continuum of care, from daily outpatient treatment at one of our facilities to halfway housing, • Life time family and alumni support, The Port St Lucie office offers each client the opportunity to grow their sober living lifestyle by learning the essential life skills for coping with adversity, which they have not acquired, due to drugs and alcohol interfering with the individual’s growth and development. It is reported that everything someone learns while using drugs and or alcohol, and while under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, must be re-learned as a sober person knows these things. Substances take away the person’s ability to cope with relationships and rejection, anxiety and all the things that young people need to learn as to handle the day to day life experiences. Some of the skills that the person will need to develop involve forming and maintaining relationships, maintaining gainful employment, obeying rules and regulations, emotional regulation, and the many growth and development skills which children, adolescents and young adults learn. Using substances removed or interfered with that learning process and now they must learn what they did not learn while using substances to become an effective responsible adult and to live life as a sober person. At Ambrosia the clients will begin at a certain level of care, based on the ASAM

Through this strength-based multidimensional assessment the ASAM criteria addresses the patient's needs, obstacles and liabilities, as well as the patient's strengths, assets, resources and support structure (The ASAM Criteria, 2016).
The three different LOC groups at Ambrosia are; Residential (RES), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient groups (IOP).
Residential LOC groups are based on the first two dimension of ASAM which are;
Dimension one; acute intoxication or withdrawal potential,
• is there a potential for the person to experience acute intoxication or the potential for the client to experience withdrawal? This is explored by determining the clients past and present substance use / abuse and withdrawal experiences.
Dimension 2; biomedical conditions and or complications,
• are there any biological conditions as medical conditions which create complications or the client being in treatment, or any condition which may interfere with the person receiving treatment? This is determined by exploring the client’s health and medical history.
The PHP groups are based on the third and fourth dimensions of patient placement criteria form

    James Mccay, director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Center on the Continuum of Care in the Addictions states that “typically, what people have been told to do is go to a lot of Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics meetings… the usual line is 90 meetings in 90 days, and once-a-week group counseling...” which is in fact something that many, if not all, patients are told at one point or another. The only problem with this statement is that without someone acting upon this and guiding the patient on how to find these sort of meetings and counseling groups this becomes just another saying to the patient and not an actual resource. Ray Tamasi, president and chief executive of Gosnold on Cape Cod, another addiction treatment organization, gives her input on people's perspective of how rehabilitation for alcohol addiction and substance abuse is supposed to be some kind of miraculous success, when in reality the transitioning between outpatient and inpatient is abysmal. Another reason why patients do not receive the appropriate after care is that “insurance didn’t used to cover anything post-discharge” (Madly Chalk) which led to many unwanted expenses.…
