Andy's Ambivalent Attitude Toward Fashion

Originally Andy felt ambivalent towards fashion as she had limited knowledge on how to dress. She didn’t watch what she ate which was shown when she purchased an onion bagel before her interview a. She would eat carbs as she has different values to those at runway and values intelligence and personality more than appearance. She shows a value expressive function by wearing unfashionable clothes.
When Miranda enters the office immediately all staff go in panic to ensure everything is in order. Emily begins to tidy up Miranda’s desk and pours her a drink and places magazines ready for her to read. Other staff members begin to change their shoes, apply makeup and throw away food to look professional for Miranda’s arrival. The first impression

Andy started to dress fashionably as her attitude to fashion became stronger as her colleagues began to accept her and encourage her which increased her self-esteem. Due to Andy initially demonstrating an ambivalent attitude towards fashion it was easy to change her attitude as she had neither a negative or positive attitude towards fashion. She had an ambivalent attitude towards fashion because she had little knowledge on fashion and how to dress. Andy’s attitude was also affected by her situation as she began a new job at Runway where everyone was dressed differently to her. Andy decided that she is no longer going to present an ambivalent attitude towards fashion because she wanted to fit the new social situation she was in and it the social norms that were evident in her workplace. She is concerned that if she is dressed how she usually dresses, she is presenting a negative image in the office and wants to change herself so that she ‘fits in’ and presents a positive image instead to be liked by her colleagues. If Andy changes her attitude towards fashion, her attitude will become stronger, more accessible and more specific which will lead to highly predictable behaviour. There was also multiple factors that affected Andys attitude and behaviour link. Andy really wanted to keep her job so she was willing to do everything she could as she needs this job to pay for her rent.
