Ambition In Romeo And Juliet

In a time of high anxiety and uncertainty the mind begins to list the worst possible situations, outcomes, or in other words consequences. “I fear, too early: for my mind misgives / Some consequences yet hanging in the stars / Shall bitterly begin his fearful date.” (I.iv.609-610). Romeo is feeling apprehensive towards crashing the Capulet’s party because of the numerous number of repercussions. Romeo desperately wants to see beautiful Rosaline while Benvolio is determined to not only show him how she is little to important, but also to introduce someone new. Stars is a reference to his fate and how the consequences to his rushed decisions may lead to his tragic downfall. This quote essentially foreshadows the rest of Romeo’s actions throughout the play and how they prove to cause trouble for him in many ways in the long run. Juliet begs, “Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine.” (III.ii.21-23). Juliet is expressing her fondness of the nighttime since it is only then that she sees her lover, Romeo. Her infatuation for Romeo is so strong that she believes if he was made into stars the whole world would love the evening as much as she and everyone will then worship the stars instead of the sun. Unlike other times the symbol stars is used throughout the play it is not used to represent the star crossed lovers future, but their devotion to each other. Just like Romeo in the balcony scene in Juliet’s soliloquy she cannot take her mind off of Romeo as he is now her whole world and more. Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection and while it is truly beautiful to watch unfold; moments like this only add to the tragic aspect of the play as we know how their fate decided their inescapable
