Ambition And Evil In Macbeth

Throughout the play we see how ambition grows so much it becomes Lady Macbeth’s worst nightmare and Macbeth’s worst enemy. Macbeth's ambition didn't only led him to killing Duncan in order to get the throne also everyone who got in his way. In the beginning of the play we see how the three witches make three prophecies, two for Macbeth and one for Banquo. Macbeth’s prophecies said that he shall be named as Thane of Cawdor then king; on the other hand, Banquo will father the future generations of kings. This creates a predicament immense enough for them to commit murder. Macbeth tells Macduff that guards were Duncan’s murderers and kills them before they are able to claim their innocence. When they try to kill Banquo and Fleance Shakespeare creates a theme of light and darkness. Banquo was killed in the dark which represents the bad. Fleance is able to run away and he runs away in the light with means goodness. Macduff always suspected that Macbeth had something to do with Duncan’s death and takes off to England to form an army against Macbeth. Macbeth gets three different apparition “The First Apparition: "Beware Macduff; Beware the Thane of Fife." The Second Apparition: "none of women born shall harm Macbeth. “The Third Apparition: "be lion-mettled, proud, and take no care who chafes, who frets… until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane Hill /shall come against him [Macbeth]"(Macbeth 5). Macbeth decided to get murderers once again and kill Macduff’s family in revenge. Lady Macbeth’s ambition turned into a nightmare which makes her sleepwalk and the doctor and the servant hear her talking about the people they had murdered. Her conscious was eating her alive and she decided to kill herself. Macduff comes back to Birnam Wood with a whole army to defeat the trairtor, Macbeth.
