Ambien CR, also called Zolpidem Tartrate, falls under the sedative category of medications; this drug treats insomnia. Ambien CR is given in 6.25 mg and 12.5 mg tablets to be consumed orally, by mouth. It is advised for adults to consume the lowest dose that will be effective, and for doses to be divided by gender. Recommended doses for women are 6.25 mg doses, while men’s doses can vary between 6.25 mg and 12.5 mg, never to exceed 12.5 mg. “The recommended initial doses for women and men are different because zolpidem clearance is lower in women” (djabfbkb). Contrastingly, for women, if the 6.25 mg is not effective they are able to increase to the 12.5 mg dose. One of the only concerns with the 12.5 mg dosage is the risk of impairment leading into the next day. In my own words, Ambien CR is a great drug to take if one has inconveniency getting the recommended number of hours of sleep due to powerlessness to remain
