Amberly: A Short Story

Amberly’s parents drive Reina to her home. Reina’s parents are very worried. Someone has been sending those photos and a video of what happened as a joke.
They are about to drive to the school to pick up Reina when amberly’s parents pull into their driveway.
“Thank you so much for being such a good friend,” Reina’s mother says to amberly. She has no idea that until this very night, Reina and amberly were not friends.
After New Year, the students go back to school. Reina thinks that by then everyone has forgotten about the winter dance. But when she walks into her classroom, everyone is talking about it. Many giggle and talk in quiet voices. But Reina’s friends laugh loudly.
Reina walks by them. She doesn’t listen when Julie says something mean to her.

At lunch, she goes to sit at amberly’s table. Amberly’s other friends look surprise. They look at her with curiosity. Some look scared and try to get up to leave.
Amberly points at the stool next to her for Reina to sit down. She looks at her friends and with a big smile says, “Everyone, this is Reina, my friend. Please be nice to her.”
The students slowly sit down again and keep eating. They start talking and to Reina’s surprise they talk to her too. The talk is light, fun and without hidden meaning in the words. They talk about music, the things they enjoy doing, school, issues with different classes and more.
Reina sees that it is nothing like the talk of her old friends. They always talk about others behind their backs, who looked the best, the latest cars and dresses they got, or how much money they got from their parents.
Reina starts making friends quickly. But no matter how many new friends she has, amberly is and will always be her best friend.
Reina and amberly have every class together. They study together after school and in the weekends. Reina even goes to tutor her other friends, so that they can get good grades on
