As a previous ambassador at my high school, I have found a fond passion of servant leadership. What I loved most of all about being an ambassador was teaching and interacting with other students who were passionate about learning and serving other people; this program brought out the best in me as a person and a Hawaiian leader. I'm hoping that being apart of these programs would help me to find a common interest and passion with others at Pace. I mainly want to work with other students who want to strengthen their leadership skills and apply those skills to life and continue to pass on these skills as words of encouragement to others. I also believe that I would bring diversity to this program because I am from the Pacific region. I have gone

I find that with a much general definition of leadership as a base, it allows for different styles and theories to come from it. My preferred leadership style, for example, is the servant leadership model. The servant leadership model was formalized by Robert K. Greenleaf. My leadership model, as similar as it may be to that of Greenleaf's, came from home.…

The servant leader would lead the way by hosting a club or coaching a team, while the charismatic leader would encourage teachers to get involved by recognizing and praising skills and abilities that they possess. Hosting events that the community can attend not only contributes to student development, but also creates opportunity for parental involvement in meaningful educational activity. One of the most profound moments in my career was when a father attended a parent/teacher conference specifically to thank me for my work as the director of a play in which his son took part. The son had been a very quiet and uninvolved individual who essentially, “came out of his shell”.…

Rachael, You are correct when you stated in your second paragraph that the best practices for servant leadership should build up employees, growing them in their strengths and abilities while creating an environment that encourages great customer service. In addition to the “best practices” that constitutes a secure employee environment, the focus of servant leader managers in organizations needs to shift from processes and outcomes to people and the future, which presents a threefold challenge for the organization. These challenges include (1) how to develop workers and unleash their creative potential, (2) how to create a positive workplace that will attract and retain talented workers, and (3) how to reinforce innovations and risk-taking…

After reading some of the articles from Greenleaf we can see that servant leadership is more than a theory but one of the first leaders to ensure not just them but others people priority needs will be served. When you look at the African culture and how servant leadership plays an active role in it you have to remind yourself of things from the past that could hinder your process of this theory. We first must ask a few questions to better understand if this leadership style can be affective for this culture. The first question would be that do those served grow on others as a person or would they not become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants?…

However, as I have gotten into my coursework and started to learn what it is to be a leader, there have been concepts and terms that I have clung on to. For instance, cultural diversity, conflict resolution, decision making, problems solving, quality, and now servant-leadership.
