After gaining a succesfull business in US, Amazon also started to expand their business worldwide by establishing separate websites in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and China. Jeff Bezos, started the company without the assurance of being profitable. Unlike any other websites, Amazon grew in a slow manner and had their first quarterly profit at the end of the year 2002. From the on the company has been able to sustain the competitiveness in the online market. From a start-up in 1995, annual sales have grown to more than $1 billion and the company has 2.5 million customers – but reported its first profit only in 2002. Until now, Amazon has a lot of competitors who own the same online retailing business like Amazon has. The other big player in e-commerce is Ebay. Amazon has their own strategy to stay in the top of the industry which will be explained later in this report.

3. Industry Analysis
Since Amazon.com belongs to two different industries, in order to conduct industry analysis of which Amazon.com belongs to, we will analyze it by dividing the industries itself into two parts, which is e-commerce industry and book retailing industry. We will also provide external analysis like PEST, global internet trends and competitor analysis.
