Amazon Rainforest Environmental Issue

The Amazon’s rainforest is a serious controversial issue seen in the media. Human health and the environment are threatened by the act of deforestation. Deforestation is a worldwide issue that is impacting our climate, health, and biodiversity, there is little being done to address this continuing problem. We all are immune to hearing the term “go green” from environmentalist and environmental ad companies. It has become harder to catch the eye of the public audience to raise awareness of environmental issues such as deforestation. At first glance one would not think this meme was promoting public awareness about deforestation. The meme used was an effective resource to engage the attention of a wide variety of people. The image is of dogs lined up patiently waiting to pee on the only tree left with the phrase “another problem caused by deforestation.” This image to some may take away the seriousness of deforestation by making light of the situation. I thought it was a clever way to advertise the effects of deforestation without using frightening images, but still bring attention to this important issue. This image is interpreted in two ways one stop cutting down trees before there is none left, or start planting trees to reduce some of the effects of deforestation. This image is a shot that captures a bright sunshiny day with a long lines of dogs waiting to pee on a single tree. The dogs are patiently waiting as though this is natural for them. The Wildlife Sanctuary posted a disturbing and gruesome image of a cheetah that is decapitated while laying on a tree on their Facebook page. The image was created by Sanctuary Asia an environmental news magazine campaigning to bring awareness about the dangers of deforestation to wildlife. The gore and gruesomeness of the image sets a serious tone. The image brings awareness to the loss of life and cruelty of deforestation. Another interpretation is cutting deforestation is a threat of extinction to the wildlife. The caption at the bottom of the image states “When the wood goes wildlife goes” implying when you cut down trees you are killing the animals that live in the rainforest.
