Amanda Todd a Canadian teenage committed suicide after anonymous person convinced her to send flash him over the internet. Amanda initially refused the stranger’s request, however the he wore on her and she sent the photos. A year later pictures Amanda didn’t know existed were sent to her. After request for more favors Amanda denied and the man sent the photos to Amanda’s friends and family. After repeated bullying both online and from peers Amanda’s parents sent her to different schools, however the bullying continued leading Amanda to drink bleach in an attempt at suicide. Talking to children daily could be one of the biggest steps in preventing bullying. If a child feels comfortable enough to their parents, it may be easier to bring up the topic of bullying. If a child shows signs of bullying at school, its best to try and stop it as soon as possible. Meetings with teachers, parents, principles and even the bullies may help the problem. Computers nowadays provide so much protection in the most basic way. Parents should be sure to put locks and any available onto their children’s computers. The teachers and principals of the schools were most likely brought up to date about Amanda’s unique situation, so a plan of action should have been put in place to assist Amanda in dealing with the bullying better. I am sure to this being that computer were fairly new, and not all homes were equipped with personal computers. In the past bullies were just students in class who may have poked or picked on another kid, nowadays with the use of computers, social media site and blogs it has become easy to be an invisible bully. Once something is posted on the internet it is an almost impossible task to get rid of. It’s always wise to walk away and then come back when agitated to be sure that what is being said or done isn’t out of anger.
Explain the key contributing factors that you believe led to bullying behaviors. Next, suggest at least three (3) ways in which prevention programs can reduce bullying cases overall.
One of the most prevalent reasons that a kid bullies is because he/she lacks attention from a parent at home and lashes out at others for attention. Children who feel ignored or neglected are more often times bullies, since they feel attention in any way is better than none. If there is violence at home, it is shown that children will repeat this behavior; without completely understanding the ramifications. Bullies don't need a reason to hurt others. When asked, some replied that it was felt stronger, smarter or better. Some kids bully in order to prevent themselves from being bullied. Prevention programs assist in reducing existing bullying problems among students preventing the development of new bullying problems
