Amanda Bynes Character Analysis

Throughout modern popular culture, there have been many cases of stars taking a mental health downfall once coming into the spotlight. Typically, this is seen among stars that have been under the pressure of fame since a very young age. Somebody representative of that would be Amanda Bynes, the once teenage star of The Amanda Show and She’s the Man.

After leaving Nickelodeon, Bynes began to become more open with expressing who she was. From April to May of 2012, Bynes was involved in 3 car accidents (multiple of which had happened after her driver’s license had been suspended). One in which she was arrested for a DUI. After her mishaps had become public, Bynes denied all allegations, as did her own father. To solidify her stance she tweeted

In coordination with the wig, Bynes decked out a matching black tank top, black sweatpants, and black sunglasses. This was one of the many instances of Bynes showing up to court and displaying inappropriate behavior and clothing.

Also in May of 2013, Miss Bynes had a huge Twitter blow-up. She claimed that she had an eating disorder which is why she “has a hard time staying thin.” Reaching out to the media, she asked that only pictures that she uploads on her social media be used when an article is written about her. She continued by saying that she has no communication with her parents, and that there is a person roaming around the city who the media believes to be her. According to Bynes, she possesses a doppelgänger that is being captured by the paparazzi.

Bynes’ antics continued on Twitter as she compiled a list of so called “ugly celebrities” in June of 2013. These celebrities included Drake, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, First Lady Michelle Obama, and President Obama, whom she attempted to get to bail her out in the previous year. A month later, Bynes took to twitter again to talk about her lust for Drake, who she had previously called ugly and even ostracized him for having an “ugly smile” along with “ugly teeth and gums.” Twitter users became extremely confused, as Bynes had bashed him barely a month

Bynes was immediately placed in a psychiatric ward after growing concern for her mental health. She was hospitalized in order for a 72-hour mental health evaluation to take place. Her parents were granted some control over Bynes’ mental health decisions and finances, as a judge had ruled that Bynes had “a lack of capacity to give informed consent to medical care.” Bynes did not take to Twitter to comment on this specific situation.

Bynes was released from the treatment facility in December of 2013, to go live under the care of her parents. Throughout early 2014, things seemed to be looking up for Miss Amanda Bynes and her mental health. However, in April of 2014 Bynes tweeted that she was going to sue magazines that add to the defamation of her character. In her own words, “they say [she has] erratic behavior when [she does] nothing wrong.” Bynes continues to deny her tumbling mental

“The best index of a person’s character is how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and how he treats people who can’t fight back.” I consider this quote by Abigail VanBuren to be very true. What it means is that we can determine someone’s character based on how they treat others. People who will only do good for someone who would return the favor have bad character. Someone like this would take advantage of others to get to where they want to go in life, only having shallow relationships with others and not bothering to hold a genuine friendship.…

In life, villains ought to be avoided; in fiction, they are simply unavoidable. Without a villain getting in the hero’s way, there would be no conflict, and a story with no conflict would not be much of a story. Great villains can have a significant effect on the value of their stories, but what makes a great villain? One example is Felix from the novel Keepers of Light by Christine Barnaby, whose frightening appearance, awful misdeeds, and opposition to the hero make him an ideal villain. Barnaby’s descriptions of Felix paint him as a horrifying creature.…
