The first short story that caught my eye was “King Of The Roller Rink”. This short story relates to me in sort of a personal way, by what I have understood. By the end of the story, the display had commented, “She realized that she doesn’t need to skate with Karl to be happy.” By my comprehension, I feel that the main character thought in order to feel accomplished, or to be able to have prosperity, she needed a certain boy. This story seemed to have taken place in the big city in the 90’s. Now I had some qualm over doing my own story, because I didn’t want to seem self-centered, but I feel like our story had been explained the easiest and was the easiest to comprehend in a little presentation. This story is about a mother that is a radio broadcaster. After a while, the mother becomes very popular, which means that instead of staying in her city broadcasting around the area, she was now traveling to different cities, now broadcasting everywhere. This leaves her daughter, Amanda, to feel very abandoned and upset. All she wants is to be able to tell her mother everything that is happening at school with her best friend, her boyfriend drama, and the teacher problems. But as you can tell, Amanda’s mother was too busy to connect with her daughter on any terms. The term ‘Wounded Birds’ is something that Amanda’s mother nicknames her callers. The callers happen to be people who need advice, or are having a life crisis. The only person that knows that her mom nicknames her callers ‘Wounded Birds’ happens to be Amanda. One day, Amanda works up the courage to call her mother’s radio station, pretending to be a totally different person. Her mom has no idea at this point that her daughter is asking for help, but instead, believes it is a girl named Claire. She gives “Claire” advise on the situation, and tells “Claire” to call
