Amanda And The Wounded Birds, And Jerimiah's Songs

The three short stories that I have chosen were simplistic, yet, very detailed in a way. I was looking for stories that I could find relatable. The stories “King Of The Roller Rink”, “Amanda And The Wounded Birds”, and “ Jerimiah’s Songs” seemed to fit my findings very accurately.

The first short story that caught my eye was “King Of The Roller Rink”. This short story relates to me in sort of a personal way, by what I have understood. By the end of the story, the display had commented, “She realized that she doesn’t need to skate with Karl to be happy.” By my comprehension, I feel that the main character thought in order to feel accomplished, or to be able to have prosperity, she needed a certain boy. Presentation wise, I feel as if Preston

This story seemed to have taken place in the big city in the 90’s. Now I had some qualm over doing my own story, because I didn’t want to seem self-centered, but I feel like our story had been explained the easiest and was the easiest to comprehend in a little presentation. This story is about a mother that is a radio broadcaster. After a while, the mother becomes very popular, which means that instead of staying in her city broadcasting around the area, she was now traveling to different cities, now broadcasting everywhere. This leaves her daughter, Amanda, to feel very abandoned and upset. All she wants is to be able to tell her mother everything that is happening at school with her best friend, her boyfriend drama, and the teacher problems. But as you can tell, Amanda’s mother was too busy to connect with her daughter on any terms. The term ‘Wounded Birds’ is something that Amanda’s mother nicknames her callers. The callers happen to be people who need advice, or are having a life crisis. The only person that knows that her mom nicknames her callers ‘Wounded Birds’ happens to be Amanda. One day, Amanda works up the courage to call her mother’s radio station, pretending to be a totally different person. Her mom has no idea at this point that her daughter is asking for help, but instead, believes it is a girl named Claire. She gives “Claire” advise on the situation, and tells “Claire” to call

I selected "Party Time" by Tantra Bensko. The story is about Clyde Hancock's excursion into a strange l little town called Naryway, where a man skipping in the train might be caused to call the police, set the dogs loose, of even split his throat. The man send to be paid to spy on the town's inhabitants, but in this night he runs into an owl who causes an accident when it tries to fly off with him. Ultimately, Clyde is killed by the owl and it is made clear that though this sort of thing happens often in Naryway, no one will remember it as the owl feats on the memories. I chose this story because it seemed interesting and admittedly because it was written in a rather standard fashion.…

My Favorite Short Story So far the story I like the most is “Hostage” by Joyce Carol Oates. The reason this is my favorite story so far because it is suspenseful. A way it is suspenseful is when she got taken by the guy no one had a clue what was going to happen next. In the story it shows a suspense part it says “By now the librarian from the sound adult room had emerged, and another women was poking her head around the corner…”(Oates1207). That shows that the lady didn't know what was going to happen.…

One of the greatest abilities in writing is getting the reader to convey with the characters, to feel how they feel in that exact moment. This is a bond we gain between us and the characters, we learn to understand these characters. When a reader can truly bond or empathize with the characters, we can really know what they are thinking and relate to them on a more personal level. When we feel sorrow or pain from a characters actions or emotions, we know that the author has indeed bonded us with conveying characters. In this short story, Chopin tells the complete story of woman’s desperation between two men.…

Schools had off because of Martin Luther King Day, so Emily and Melissa had plans to go to Laura’s house; nothing special, just to hang with some friends, play some ping pong, eat, maybe even watch a movie. As Emily and Melissa were about to venture to Miramar, they first had to say their goodbyes to their parents, as they always did before leaving. Their mom sat on the couch, like always, in her fluffy, pink, penguin pajama-pants and white tank-top. “Bye mom going to Laura’s love you”, Emily enthusiastically and quickly proclaimed, almost as if sarcastically and speaking in a runoff statement. Emily gave a quick kiss on the cheek to both her mother and father and raced out the door to Alivia’s…

“He felt the thud of the bodies, heard the fluttering of wings; but the birds were not yet defeated, for again and again they returned to the assault, jabbing his hands, his head, their little stabbing beaks sharp as pointed forks” (Daphne du Maurier’s The Birds). This enthralling scene is an excerpt from none other than Daphne du Maurier’s The Birds, and it inserts a perfect picture in the reader’s head of the suffering Nat is undergoing. In the short story The Birds, Nat must defend his family from the invasion of birds, and the author creates a suspenseful story with strong imagery during and after the raid of the birds.…

The two short stories I chose to compare are “The Rocking Horse Winner” and “Young Goodman Brown”. “The Rocking Horse Winner” was written by D.H. Lawrence and “Young Goodman Brown” was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In “The Rocking Horse Winner” the main conflict of the story is that Paul’s and his parents are struggling mightily with their economic situation. The story is about a family that consists of a father and mother, a son named Paul and his two sisters. Paul is always curious about his family’s financial situation.…
