It’s a well-known fact that the key to a healthy life lies in a balanced diet and daily exercise. There are countless websites, television channels, and books dedicated to achieving one’s optimum health. Having a good exercise routine can extend one’s life for years and years, but the health benefits of exercise surpass just the physical body, it benefits the mind as well. Few people know that exercise isn’t just about the exterior. On one hand, looking and being fit fulfills a part of a person’s ego that wants their appearance to be the best. When a person feels good physically, he or she feels good mentally as well. It’s an innate drive that all animals, humans included, are subject to. Research shows that physical activity helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Everyone has the potential to get Alzheimer’s as they get older, especially because, well, everyone gets older. This is due to physical activities boost to the production of a protein known as BDNF. BDNF boosts overall brain activity, which leads to stronger neural connections inside the brain. The stronger the connection, the harder they are to break as the brain ages. It also helps reduce anxiety, and everyone has the possibility to feel anxious, although it’s not always a problem for some people.
