These personal narratives we tell really give us a chance to establish who we are. But as we age and grown older the self-image we have built can be deteriorated like those with Alzheimer’s. Someone who suffers from AD can suffer has severe lack in cognitive abilities and serve memory loss. The good thing is that there are other ways for people with AD to communicate. Being able to express themselves non-verbally as a way of communication in story telling has allowed those with AD still be able to know and convey their identity. This is important because non-verbal elements in story telling can play a prominent role. Every time at team dinner on Friday nights my coach asks my teammates and I the same thing. He asks, “Who are we? What are we all about? What will they say about us when it’s all over?” The first time I heard him say this as a young freshman I couldn’t really make sense of it because wasn’t around long to hear enough stories about who we are and what we are. But now I have been around for little while and I understand that at that moment he sending a challenge to us to not only go out on Saturday and define who not only as a team an as a person, but every day how will you define yourself. That quote always sticks in my mind no matter where I may be at the moment. If I’m at practice I try to get better with each repetition and focus on what I have to do each play. If I’m in class try and pay attention and establish that I’m trying to learn something. If I’m at the library doing work I try and stay focused on work and be efficient. Because we have established a culture as a programming to a certain way and with that each day we must live the way and uphold the legacy. Every day I wake I use what Goffman calls the avoidance process to try and maintain my positive face. I do my best to walk around with a smile on my face being polite. I don’t walk into the field house with any jewelry on or hats on my
