When you have a mind like mine; that constantly moves 100 miles per hour it always stay up at night. There are two major things that stay on my mind at night I can’t understand why so many people are in pain and will there ever be a cure for Alzheimer’s? These are the crux of my sleeplessness.

I walk the streets in my neighborhood and see the constant pain in my community. When I say pain I mean by the consent regrets and struggle that people face every day. You can see that people live in despair, because of the hard times they’ve been through. I believe that the lack of optimistic thoughts in my community blinds people to think about the greater good. I feel that community is anger because we are unable to show all of our talents. If a student has done very well in high school but don’t have the money for college or has to take care of their family will opt not to go. This then put them at a disadvantage as others. If that individual stays in that predicament; then life will be a struggle. Maybe the lack of everyday happiness is the reason why my community is on a downhill spiral with the crime. My community is deficient in happiness; happiness that is vital in becoming a stronger community. Happiness and love can help drive out this unneeded hate, crime, and lack of care.

I am truly perplexed by why it’s not rare that a poor community is lacking happiness. However, I think I know the answer. Every day within these communities people stay with the fear that violence and crime will be the main priority their children focus on, rather than their education. Because the children are their future and if they are doing the same poor decisions they made, a cycle will keep on repeating itself with no progress. The breakdown of the social institutions established in a given area is the next principle that leads to social disorganization. Social control sounds harsh, but it is really established to make sure the society in which it is working stays fit as a well oiled machine, rather than chickens running around with their heads cut off. In an area with a lack of social control, that being: good schools, close families, and even law enforcement, natural order takes over, which is the “no one’s in charge, no ones looking” mentality in this situation. First of all, when kids aren’t in school when they are supposed to be, they are obviously doing something else, more likely than not, that something is not benefitting their future as much as school would…

The Homewood Trilogy by John Edgar Wideman questions the effects of his first true influences, the Academy and the Street. “My university training had both thwarted and prepared this understanding, and the tension of multiple traditions, European and Afro-American, the Academy and the Street, animates these texts,” Wideman acknowledges. The essence of Wideman’s argument is that the life he lived at the academy and in the street influenced him to become the person he is today. I agree with author John Edgar Wideman about the positive and negative results of his first true influences. My mother has influenced my morals, the way I treat other people, and how I allow other people to treat me.…

The frog in a well is indeed a fitting phrase for describing The Casual Vacancy, by J.K. Rowling as readers take a sneak-peek into the true nature of society that Rowling perceives. It is noticeable how small everyone’s problems are in the big picture, yet get treatment as if the world will end any minute. The Casual Vacancy mimics society by illustrating a small English town, Pagford, which is in shock after the death of Barry Fairbrother. Upon his death, what is supposedly a pretty town reveals itself to be a town at war with each other: those with privileges versus those without it, wives disagree with their husbands and teenagers plot against their parents. Now, the empty seat on the parish council, which Barry Fairbrother leaves, is the…

The ‘top 1 percent’ would like to keep their happiness to themselves and they do not wish to share it with others. Agreeing with Lewis that we should limit the pursuit of happiness in concern for others, the rich should limit their happiness and laws should be made to make everyone has about the same chances of achieving happiness. For example the tax law should be changed so that depending on how much you make you should pay a certain amount, so if you make more you should pay more. There should be things that prevent under the table deals where politicians are being paid to vote on bills that is not for the greater good. Happiness should not be limited for one person but not limited for the other it only makes inequality more prominent in the…
