Q: Why isn't Kappa considering an honorary award instead of creating a new membership status? A: The Fraternity is looking to add women of high moral character who are ready to engage in their communities now. An honorary award does not inspire the loyalty, commitment and dedication of membership, which is the ultimate goal for our members. Granting a secondary status is not the most effective way of engaging new partners. Q: Is this so that Kappa can make money? A: The intention of Alumna Initiation is create new avenues of recruitment for our Fraternity. Although alumna initiates would have to pay an initiation fee in addition to membership dues in order to join, that amount is nominal in the grand scheme of our organization's budget. Money is not the riving force behind this initiative. Adding outstanding, contributing members of our organization is. Q: Why are we doing this just because everyone else is doing it? The application process would be followed by a new member education period and a virtual alumna initiate group to ensure full emersion and integration into our sisterhood. Q: What is the education process for alumna initiates? A: The education process follows the collegiate model as closely as possible, providing historical and ritual education modeled after Aspirations, our keepsake book that is currently given to collegiate new members. In addition, these women would go through basic Fraternity life education courses, like learning the Greek alphabet and about different chapter experiences, so they would also have a background regarding the experience our collegiate members receive. Q: Will the standards of initiating an alumna member be similar to those for collegians (e.g., academic GPA, character, etc.)? A: Alumna initiates will be evaluated with the same Fraternity values and expectations that we encourage our collegiate chapters to use during Recruitment. However, since our process is more in depth than many Recruitments (i.e., alumna initiates must state their intent, find recommendations and a sponsor, and even submit a résumé), we anticipate that our alumna initiates will be high-quality

This type of behavior is extremely common in the state of Alabama where southern roots remain strong in communities. This influence reaches even into the social structure of the south’s biggest universities. Although the racism continues to be present in the University of Alabama Greek system, forced integration would only cause harm to the intricate process and all parties involved. Fraternity and Sorority organizations are private with their own bylaws and traditions. There is no reason for these organizations to be regulated by any university.…

or any sorority for that matter, except for what I hear on my college campus, which are basically stigmas (good and bad) that are tied to each sorority. After months and months of my ears being flooded with “Zeta this, Gamma Rho that, AKA this, and Delta that,” and my friends telling me that I should pledge Delta because I’m very blunt and have an attitude, I literally thought the whole sorority (sisterhood) and fraternity (brotherhood) thing was stupid and childish. I told myself that I would never be apart of any sisterhood and I would be my own support, and my own organization. However, after continued pestering from my friends about how I should become a Delta because of my fitted Delta personality, I decided to do some research. The one thing that sold me on wanting to become a…
