Altruism: Passage Analysis

passage is about a special act in humans and other creatures called altruism. the passage defines many good things of such creature although the professor has refuted these ideas. first of all, the author describe a special characteristic of meerkatand says that they have to sacrifice their food for the safety of other fellow meekats but the professor refutes the idea and shares that the guard meerkat eat before every other meerkat than stands as a guard. so, in this way he benifits himself.
Secondly, author shares that an altrustic meerkat faces a lot of danger as he is standing alone in case if any predator attacks but the professor denies the idea by explaining that it is much safer for altrustic meerkat to save himself in such cases
