That, in turn, helps me grows as a person. There is little else that gives me more joy than leading discussions, presenting, and debating just about anything: our foreign policy and politics, the environment, the true nature of man, and even the (immense) value of the domesticated chicken. Furthermore, as a foster child, I have moved around a lot and have seen innumerable faces; as a result, unfamiliar and strange groups have been a part of my life for so long that I am comfortable with them. Getting along with others has been key to survive in high school; I have made amazing friends and acquaintances as a result of that. With all of those qualities in mind, I believe I could contribute to the Girls’ State program by offering my quirky personality and devotion to my country to meet new people and get engaged with our government.…

Growing up in our time, in a middle class privileged family and attending a good school makes myself take for granted what some people truly go though. I have always enjoyed my history classes throughout high school because my teachers were so passionate about their subjects. Prior to this class I had not been aware of several events in our history including the project of Freedom Summer which took place in 1964. Throughout the PBS documentary of Freedom Summer I had felt shocked, fortunate, furious and several other feelings.…

I want to attend TASS, firstly, due to the enriching and essential information about Black studies that the program provides, but also because of the life-experiences that such a program provides. This summer camp would provide me the opportunity to venture to another state like New York or Chicago (places that I have never been) and learn more about the world and myself. Additionally, since the program brings in students from across the nation, it is also an experience to meet new people and learn more about the experiences of Blacks and minorities from diverse backgrounds. As an African-American male from North Carolina, I think I can provide an adequate representation of the experiences across the state. I have extensive experience with…
