Alternative Spring Break: A Personal Reflection

My sophomore year, I went on an alternative Spring Break, with ASU to the Dominican Republic to teach english. It was here that a passion for education emerged. The one week we were there had such an impact on not only the kids but me as well. Due to lack of funding and supplies, my team and I had to be resourceful and innovative. We created worksheets by hand and various teaching materials so as to effectively teach the students. After I came back, I knew I wanted to keep working with kids and began working at the Boys and Girls Club which I absolutely love! Working there has exposed me to the dire need for educational equity. Out of the 150 members that attend, less than 25% know how to read, which is alarming. Through the programs I have
