The perception that most Americans may have is that illegal immigration is negatively affecting the country economically and socially. For this reason, some states have passed laws to restrict illegals the access to basic services (Hilfiger, Mcewen & Boyle, 2015). Moreover, this negative perception has also affected the immigrants’ situation; for example, newcomers can be discriminated by employers and co-workers (Hilfiger, Mcewen & Clark, 2015; Hilfiger, …show more content…
This was evident during the last presidential election in the U.S. where they represented an important part of the electoral census. However, the situation of illegal immigration is also affecting those Americans citizens or residents that have a Latin American heritage since they can also be discriminated based on other Latin Americans’ behaviour. This program required that the U.S. government define the conditions these immigrants should accomplish to qualify for this program. The indult for the unauthorized immigrants may not be sustainable since it has some economical repercussions in terms of the social aid and programs that the U.S. government has such as health or welfare programs since the cost of these programs may not be completely cover with the taxes or payments that these new citizens make. For these reasons, the financial analysis of this solution may have to weigh the cost of the current programs against the illegal immigration such as border patrols with the cost of the programs that the citizens may have access when the legalized their situation. Offering indults to the current illegal immigrants will permit them to have access to different resources using a legal path.
