Passion, respect, enthusiasm, professionalism, sensitivity, humor and heart are qualities in which principals seek to find in potential teachers. In an article by Gary Hopkins, What Qualities Do Principals Look for in a New Teacher, principals identified the most important qualities they seek in potential teachers. Gary Cardwell, a principal from Crocket Elementary School, stated, “It’s impossible to select one characteristic that sets a teacher candidate apart from others. I would never use a single characteristic to employ a teacher, rather I consider many characteristics as part of a mosaic that makes up an entire principal” (Hopkins, 2016). When principals hire teachers, it is critical that they identify a candidates strengths and weaknesses.…

In today's media coverage, we frequently hear of problems in the education system across the nation. Many communities are concerned about the quality of education being received by their students. For instance, in "10 Major Challenges” Grace Chen examines some major issues in education being bullying and family problems making an impact on the learning aptitude of many students in today’s society. This is echoed in Alvin P. Sanoff in “High school fails to engage students,” when he explains that students don’t spend the sufficient time doing their homework or studying yet still obtain an A or B in their high school course. However, when they go to college, most students tend to take remedials because they were not accustomed to taking challenging…

In Kimberly Kalil’s article, the pros and cons of year-round education are discussed in detail, incorporating ethos to further the rhetoric of the argument to make it more effective. In the section of the article based on the benefits of year-round education, the rhetoric is particularly well-suited for those who do not know much about the advantages of year-round education and allows for a strong argument from a reliable source to be conveyed, this source being Dr. Matthew Lynch. The use of the ethos, that is the use of information from a doctor within this field, is particularly effective to show why the year-round calendar has its advantages including “preventing summer learning loss” and kids “don 't have enough to do in the summer”.
