Alternate Major Essay

Alternate Major A general curiosity of numerical calculations in the existence of matter is the major root-cause for majoring in Chemistry. In essence, a lack thereof of such curiosity fuels the desire to transition from Chemistry to another science-related fields. One popular change is from Chemistry to Biology. I personally think that changing my major to Biology will be the easy route to take because the comparison between the two illustrates a rather compelling idea of 39 credits to obtain a Bachelors in Science in Biology, as compared to the 48 credits required for a Bachelors in Chemistry. The what/if degree audit illustrates that there will be little classes needed to be taken after finishing this current 2015 Fall semester. Personally however, I …show more content…
in Chemistry requires a Minor cluster with a total of 9 credit hours to finish, while the B.S. in Biology does not require a minor. On a lighter note, my strengths of being strategic, deliberative and a learner is highlighted when I chose a B.S. in Chemistry as oppose to a B.S. in Biology. I had planned and looked ahead of the possible downfalls of simply becoming a Biology graduate, which in most cases is the lack of jobs present for a Biology graduate. When I was still in Southeastern Community College (SCC), I had continuously researched and pondered of the possibilities that can happen if I were to take Biology as a major. I ended up with a single conclusion that Biology is a complex scientific field and finding such jobs for it will be very difficult since the major composition of Biology is the ideologies about the living entities. However, if I became Chemistry major, I will have an even broader knowledge than Biology major could ever be. In the end, as my mentor in SCC once said, “every scientific fields will always have a relation with Chemistry, one way or another.” This essentially convinced me that I needed to strategically study Chemistry in order to understand higher levels of science

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

In the article “Two Years Are Better than Four”, Liz Addison opposes the interpretation of modern day community colleges. In today’s society, community colleges are underappreciated and lack the respect that they deserve; community colleges are deemed “easygoing” since they are easier to get into then a so-called “privileged” college or university. Addison examines the expectations, affordability, level of education, and the growth and development of community colleges in contradiction of a four-year college or University. In high school, if not told already, students are planted with a seed.…

Immunohistochemistry was really interesting and complex. At first, I overlooked it because I thought it was my over my head and not applicable to me at the moment. Then, over time I noticed that we talked about it several class periods, so clearly it had some significance to us currently.…
