He woke up with a start. Breathing heavily, he looked over at the empty dog bed beside him.

"Miss ya, bud.." He'd sigh, closing his eyes as he flopped back onto his bed. It had been a year; no, it had been two years since he had lost his friend to the incident.

Now, his life, his motivation; lost to the overwhelming darkness that consumed him, day by day. It wouldn't take much now for Odyssey to fly into a blinding rage at the next stupid thing he'd encounter.

Odyssey. That was his name, as much as he hated it. Every kid in his class would turn their heads as his name was called. It's like they thought he was the next new philosopher. But as soon as he met their eyes, they knew it could never be. Their maniacal laughter echoed through

See, his dad had lived with him for a while, until he was about twelve. He had been taken to the hospital, in a drug-induced coma. His dad died later in the night, leading to a big depression spike in his mom. However, times were not always as pleasant as they currently are; different diversities of people were not only shamed for their race, gender or ethnicity, but they were abused for it. In addition to that, abuse of this kind happened less than a hundred years ago during the times of when countries all around the world were placing the African American people under racial segregation. That being said, if things like human trafficking and racial discrimination can still be found in today’s modern world, then unfair…

After reading The Odyssey, many students today question their teachers: “Why did we read that?” and “How will this help me?” The answer to those questions are of the very conspicuous topics, silently covered by the book. One of which is the wise advice of considering other’s opinions and suggestions, and the next is the subject of the long journey and how it is still very substantial in today’s book and movies. In Robert Fagles’ translation of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, the themes of humbleness and considering other people’s suggestions, along with the relevance of the long journey in today’s society help to show why The Odyssey remains a literary cornerstone in today’s classrooms.…

"Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary" this is a quote from Gerard Way, a famous musician with an insightful viewpoint, regarding heroism. I think this quote represents heroism very simply, yet in the truest way. Homer, in the epic poem, The Odyssey, suggests that Odysseus is a hero. Homer develops this assertion by pointing out Odysseus's heroic characteristics in the various trials that he faces. The speaker's purpose is to inform the audience of what true heroes are like and the traits that they may possess in order for them to understand that Odysseus is the ideal example of a hero, regardless of his flaws.…

The Odyssey is a well known historical epic poem from the one and only famous Homer. The folk story has been around since the 8th century BC and is still widely known up to this present day. Throughout all these years, this story is considered very important to society since I personally think it teaches us more about how things were like in the past instead of reading about things in textbooks and how we can take some qualities shown in this story and apply it in our lives. The Odyssey has taken place when the Trojan War ended and the descending of Troy took position and how the main character Odysseus went through many trails and many years, ten to be exact, to make his way back home with his family. From the epic poem we see how family life was, the relations they had with their gods, and how their cultural and society was.…
