A few blocks away stood a young boy injured in the abandoned town only partially lit by flickering street lights, isolated from all other existence. Little did he know he was making his way towards the old manor.
The boy struggled through the empty streets. He heard something fall from a surface and hit the floor in paranoia his eyes followed the sound. He found himself peering through a store window; what he then saw paralysed him with fear… emerging from the darkness was a tall shadowy figure almost twice the boys' height lurking towards him… when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, the towns' generator had cut out. The boy was now in complete and utter darkness and had lost sight of the figure…
The boy rushed to his pocket for his phone so it could be used as a torch but as he looked up with his phone in his hand he saw the creatures’ dark red, bloodthirsty eyes towering above him. The creature smashed the phone out of his hand; the boy let out a cry in sheer terror and ran towards the only light source he could see; a small window a few blocks away high above the ground.

His injuries started to catch up with him, blood scattered on his clothes with a deep pool of blood coming from the left side of his stomach. He stumbled along the dead roads until he saw a letter “P” light up however it was dim and flickered on and off. Despite this the boy was still blinded by it. The boy ran towards the light hoping that he could find anyone or anything to help him. As he got closer he discovered it was a pharmacy. He ran inside in search of bandages. Rummaging through the darkness, he eventually found two bandages and some plasters. He wrapped the bandage like a belt around his stomach. After a few seconds the bandages where already discolouring into a dark blood-red. He applied two plasters to a deep cut going all the way down his temple but he was losing blood

The Terrible Glorification of War in “Chickamauga” To those who have not seen war through the eyes of a soldier, the prospect of going to battle for one’s country, land, rights, or religion may seem glorious, or even romantic. But to those, like Ambrose Bierce, who fought for the Union Army in the Civil War, war is a deadly game that can leave its survivors physically and emotionally scarred. Bierce utilized his talents as a writer after the war to share the horrors that he witnessed and experienced with the public. Young men are killed, maimed and mangled. The confusion behind the purpose of life and death that causes grief is often looked at as a simple problem that can be neglected; but avoiding that problem often leads into larger conflicts. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the protagonist lacks the ability to adjust with the nature of life which leads into his desire in creating a living creature; where as in The Sweet Hereafter by Russel Banks, the inability to cope with death changed the ideology of a bus accident victims ' families. In both of the novels, it is clear that the families and Frankenstein are incapable of adapting with the nature of life and death; thus, resolving that requires an understanding of the purpose behind both life and death on an equal scale.
