In her book Altered States: The Globalization of Accountability Valerie Sperling says; “To the extent that the community of people concerned about extending human rights (including the right to participate in governance) grows, pressure for accountability on governing institutions—state and supra-territorial alike—will intensify” This quotation explains that we do need non-governmental organizations to take control of the issue of human rights, and the pressures of the citizens on the government will influence it to take action. We have treaties such as Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons implemented by the United Nations, which aids with the trafficking of people in other countries.
