Gender and sexuality are eminent themes within Shakespeare's work. During the time of Shakespeare's reign there was stigma behind the gender of the performance as women weren't seen suitable to perform so all of the roles had to be performed by men. However both sex's had specific roles in society, men seen to be masculine, emotion not being forefront of their lives, they were hardworking and strong. Women however belonged at home, controlled by men and were thought to be unable to think for themselves.
