Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…
Riverdale High School offers an overall quality high school experience, but Riverdale’s athletics are regularly struggling. To be specific, Riverdale’s baseball program is struggling. Limited training space, offseason training, and coaching have created a tradition of losing and low numbers. However, these problems are fixable, and a change in the atmosphere could start a new tradition of success.…

In the article called, “Five Premises for a Culturally Sensitive Approach to Dance,” written by Deidre Sklar. She discussed about the five premises that a person should know if they wanted to understand the culture of a dance. The article could help readers analyze the movement in a piece of dance and understand how it could be related to a culture. This essay will discuss about the Native American Sun Dance using three of the premises from Deidre Sklar. Those premises are one has to look beyond movement to get at its meaning, movement knowledge is a kind of cultural knowledge and movement knowledge is conceptual and emotional as well as kinesthetic.…

At Challenger K8 I am the internal coach for the Positive Behavior Intervention Support initiative. As celebrations for nine grade level become expensive I wanted to incorporate a fundraiser for the next year events; however, after speaking with my principal she had asked me to work on a fund raiser for a marquee that cost $6,000. There have been many fund raisers within the school each year, so finding something different is hard. 1. Describe your planning activities.…
In 1974 a great organization was founded, the Universal Cheerleading Association. Then, what I call a copy-cat of an organization was formed, the Universal Dance Association or UDA. The UDA was formed in 1980, but I believe the UCA is more, popular, and well put together.…
As my second level 1 Fieldwork, I chose to volunteer for the Raleigh County Special Olympics Cheerleading team. There were four cheerleaders whose deficits ranged from Down syndrome, psychological, speech, low muscle tone, also across the autism spectrum. In which, Cheerleading enhances the following: attention span, comprehension, organization, sequencing, increased endurance, postural control, and increases social skills. Over a course of a month we gathered to participate in the learning of cheers and a competition dance. The support the athlete’s family had showed during practices and competition was influential to not only their child or family member but to me, as a volunteer and as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Student.…
Misty Copeland is an African American ballet dancer, who is famous for her beautiful technique, distinguishing body figure, and for being the first African American dancer the be appointed to principal dancer in the American Theater Ballet. As all underdog stories go, Misty wasn’t born into a wealthy and powerful family. It was her God-given talent that set Misty apart from the rest. Misty was born in September of 1982 in Kansas City, Missouri. However, when Misty was just a toddler, her mother, Sylvia DelaCerna, took Copeland and her other three children to California.…
Ever since seventh grade, I have been a competitive cheerleader. I began tumbling a year prior, which led me to joining the squad. My team consists of nineteen of my closest friends who push me to be the best I can be, as a person and as an athlete. What is the effect of having these girls by my side? Since it has only been a couple of years, I remember what life was like before joining the squad.…
What about us?!” There of course, like anything new project will have objections. The other school clubs or clubs trying to be created all have one thing in common. The other aspiring clubs need funding. There is limited funds for the college and a U.S. economy on the teeter; therefore, money on campus is scarce.…
In high school, there are so many organizations to choose from. From swimming to DECA, football to choir, dance to basketball, and the list can go on and on. I joined the break dance team because it sparked my interest. The only problem with joining the break dance team was that I couldn’t be on the basketball team. I’ve always loved to dance.…
It had always been a dream of mine to enter high school and be not only a member of the dance team, but an officer or a colonel. Since I am an experienced, competitive dancer and have been dancing since I was 3, becoming a member of the team was fairly simple, but I knew becoming an officer would be a challenge. I became a member of the team my freshman year and instantly fell in love with the change of environment. When sophomore year arose, being apart of the team became tedious, but my yearning passion to become a captain continued my intense drive.…
The easiest way is to support their partners like Coco-Cola, Bank of America, University of Phoenix, Taco Bell, and dozens more. These caring corporations donate money for athletic equipment, computer technology, books, food, and class tools. Citizens can donate money online, or volunteer as an athletic coordinator or program director. The general public should support this organization because their mission is to provide a safe place for young people to truly enhance their opportunities to succeed in life. The mission is a success and needs the peoples support.…
The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
