“I am like any other man, all I do is supply a demand” was one of the many famous quotes said by one of the most powerful gangsters during the nineteenth century- Al “Scarface” Capone. While this quote might seem innocent, Al Capone was far from that. The demand he supplies often costs peoples lives, lots of money and emotional/physical distress. While the consequences of his actions meant disaster for some, he was still an important figure in the 1920s American History because he was known as the most notorious gangsters throughout the world.

Alphonse “Scarface” Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York to a family of italian immigrants which were poor and were seeking a better life in the United States. Al was one of eight other kids, seven boys and two girls. His father worked as a barbed while his wife worked as a seamstress. He began his

After the horrible events of the St.Valentine's Day Massacre the president at the time, Herbert Hoover, ordered the government to initiate an investigation on his tax evasion. The supreme court ruled that “income gained on illegal activities was taxable” (History.Com staff, 1) which gave the supreme court and the government a very strong case and probable cause to prosecute capone. Shortly after in June 5, 1931 the government convicted Capone on 22 counts of tax evasion. After many deliberations between multiple juries and judges, he was proven guilty and sentenced to federal prison for 11 years. Al capone was notorious for bribing prison guards which led him to be transferred to Alcatraz, a maximum security facility on a island surrounded by crashing ocean waves and sharks. His term was shorter than expected, six and a half years later he was released but was treated in a mental hospital with his health rapidly declining. He later passed away January 25,
